About the club

The Club was formed in May 2015. Up until March 2020 we had an active and growing membership of 60+ players encompassing all ages and abilities. We took a significant hit during the pandemic, our membership numbers fell, we had to close for months and when we did re-open it was a very difficult period. As at September 2023 we have made a remarkable recovery. Our membership is back to 50+ and we are thriving, new potential members showing up each week.

The Club aims to support and promote the playing of Table Tennis in Petersfield. We also aim to provide recreational and competitive play for players of all ages and abilities year-round. Many Table Tennis Clubs close during the summer months, but we remain open for approximately 46 weeks each year, right through most school holidays.

From next year (2024) we will be expanding to open another weekday evening "Club Night" at The Petersfield School (TPS). Thursday evenings will be new for us from January 2024. We have a number of initiatives for activities on these additional evenings.

Our competitive members playing in the local league (Haslemere) have enjoyed tremendous success in both the winter and summer leagues and in local tournaments and competitions. See the HDTTA Honours page.

Tony Smith the Chairman and General Secretary of the club has been involved with the sport for more than 60 years. He became a Licensed Level 2 TTE Coach in the 1980's and holds current DBS certification together with First Aid and Safeguarding certificates. He doesn't play much these days but he still does all the admin, ably assisted by Julian Hawkins and several others who serve on the Clubs management committee.

Julian runs our Monday Club nights and administers the Award scheme that he introduced for our junior members, this has proved incredibly popular.

We also have several Level 1 TTE Coaches as members of the Club and numerous others who hold DBS clearance. We have a close association with TPS and many of our junior members came to us through the school.

A little history

About 30 years ago there were several successful Petersfield based clubs playing in the Haslemere League and they have all folded and disappeared for one reason or another. Many of the long standing Haslemere Tournament and Competition Trophies carry the "Petersfield" name and some date back to the 80s.

During the last eight years we have revived and continued this tradition. A quick glance at the HDTTA Honours page will demonstrate this. We have quite quickly become a prominent Club in this League - indeed the largest Club (by members) - and several of our members serve on the HDTTA Management Committee.
